Description: Defines management objects for Zhone Small Form Factor transceiver modules including optical parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHONE-SFF?

ZHONE-SFF is Zhone Technologies' management MIB for small-form-factor pluggable optical transceiver modules -- SFP, SFF, and XFP -- installed in Zhone access/aggregation equipment. It exposes per-module inventory and optical-parameter data: transceiver type/vendor identification and real-time optical measurements such as transmit/receive optical power, temperature, and voltage/bias current for each installed module. Its monitoring value is squarely in optical hardware health: tracking a transceiver's temperature and optical power lets an operator catch a degrading laser, a dirty/damaged fiber connection, or a module nearing end-of-life before the link actually fails. It parallels the industry-standard SFF/SFP digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) interface defined by the SFF committee specifications, though implemented as a Zhone-specific MIB rather than importing a standard MIB module. It is deployed on Zhone access/aggregation platforms that use pluggable optics, monitored by operators managing fiber-based uplinks or PON/optical access links. Engineers can download the ZHONE-SFF file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHONE-SFF. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone access/aggregation equipment (pluggable optical modules)

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided for this module; based on the description, an admin would poll a given transceiver's optical transmit/receive power and temperature objects to check whether an installed SFP/SFF/XFP module is operating within safe optical margins, watching for a power reading trending toward the module's low-power alarm threshold as an early sign of fiber or laser degradation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • transceiver type/vendor identification
  • optical transmit power
  • optical receive power
  • module temperature
  • bias current/voltage
