Category: VoIP and Telephony

Description: Manages Zhone Technologies IUA ISDN User Adaptation layer configuration and SCTP association status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHONE-IUA-MIB?

ZHONE-IUA-MIB manages the ISDN User Adaptation (IUA) layer configuration on Zhone Technologies products, a signaling-transport protocol that carries ISDN Q.921/Q.931 signaling over SCTP/IP. It exposes configuration and status data for the IUA server: association setup and SCTP association status information used when ISDN backhaul is transported over an IP network. From a monitoring standpoint, this MIB confirms the software-level health of the signaling adaptation layer -- whether SCTP associations to the peer signaling gateway are established and stable -- which is critical for ISDN-based voice/data services to function correctly. It directly depends on IETF standards for IUA (RFC 3057) and SCTP, layering Zhone-specific configuration on top. It is typically deployed on Zhone access gateways or media gateway products that backhaul ISDN PRI/BRI signaling over an IP core network. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ZHONE-IUA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHONE-IUA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone access gateways with ISDN backhaul (IUA over SCTP)

Monitoring Examples

Without concrete object names to cite, the practical monitoring scenario per module_desc is polling SCTP association status objects for the configured IUA server to confirm the association state is established; a stuck or flapping association status would indicate a signaling-transport fault preventing ISDN call setup from completing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IUA server configuration
  • SCTP association status
  • signaling link state
