Description: Provides Zhone Technologies IETF distributed management ping test implementation for connectivity verification.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHONE-DISMAN-PING-MIB?

ZHONE-DISMAN-PING-MIB is Zhone Technologies' implementation of the IETF DISMAN-PING-MIB (RFC 2925 family) for remotely controlling ping-based connectivity tests from a Zhone device. It exposes ping-test control and results data typical of the standard Ping MIB: configuring a target host and test parameters, triggering a test run, and reading back round-trip-time, packet-loss, and completion status for that test. Its monitoring value is in active reachability verification: an operator uses it to remotely confirm whether a Zhone device can reach a given IP target, and to gather latency/loss statistics that reveal network path degradation between the device and that target. As its name states, it directly depends on and implements the IETF DISMAN-PING-MIB standard rather than being a purely proprietary design. It is deployed on Zhone access/aggregation devices as a diagnostic tool for NMS-driven, remote-triggered connectivity and latency checks. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the ZHONE-DISMAN-PING-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHONE-DISMAN-PING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone access/aggregation device

Monitoring Examples

An admin would configure and trigger a ping test via the DISMAN-PING-MIB-style control table and then poll the corresponding results objects for round-trip time and packet loss to a target host, using rising loss or latency to spot a degrading network path from this device. zhonePingGroups is the conformance group object defining which of the standard ping-test objects this Zhone agent implements, rather than a runtime data object itself.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ping test round-trip time
  • packet loss
  • ping test completion status
  • target host reachability
