Category: Zhone Technologies CPE and Access

Description: Manages Zhone Technologies IP forwarding configuration, routing table entries, and packet forwarding rules.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHNIPFORWARDING?

ZHNIPFORWARDING is a Zhone Technologies private enterprise MIB defining IP forwarding extensions for Zhone customer-premises equipment (CPE), such as DSL/fiber access gateways. It exposes a routing-table style structure covering both IPv4 and IPv6 forwarding entries: destination address, subnet mask, outgoing interface, gateway address, and route metric. Its monitoring value is centered on software/configuration status of the CPE's IP forwarding behavior, letting an operator verify that static or learned routes are correctly installed and that a given destination is reachable via the expected gateway and interface. It is a self-contained enterprise extension built on the conventional IP-forwarding-table model (echoing concepts from the standard IP-FORWARD-MIB) rather than importing it directly. It is deployed on Zhone broadband access CPE devices at customer sites or in access-network aggregation points, where ZHNIPFORWARDING SNMP monitoring confirms routes remain correctly installed.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHNIPFORWARDING. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone Technologies broadband CPE/access gateways

Monitoring Examples

An operator would query ipForwardingTable entries (ipForwardingDestIPAddress, ipForwardingDestSubnetMask, ipForwardingGatewayIPAddress, ipForwardingInterface) to confirm a route to a given destination network is present and points to the correct next hop. ipForwardingForwardingMetric lets an admin compare route preference when multiple paths exist, and ipForwardingTableRowStatus shows whether an entry is active, notInService, or has failed to be created. A missing expected route entry here would explain a CPE's inability to reach a particular subnet.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IP forwarding table entries
  • destination address and subnet mask
  • gateway/next-hop address
  • outgoing interface
  • route metric
  • route row status
