Category: Xedia Enterprise Networking

Description: Monitors Xedia Corp. Packet over SONET interface framing, path status, and transmission error counters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is XEDIA-POS-MIB?

The XEDIA-POS-MIB is a Xedia Corporation MIB adding Packet-over-SONET (PoS) specific management objects beyond the standard SONET MIB, covering PoS interface framing configuration, path status, and transmission error counters. It exposes an interface configuration table controlling settings like CRC mode alongside path-level status and error-counter objects. Its monitoring emphasis is on interface/hardware line health: detecting SONET/PoS framing errors, path alarms, and CRC configuration mismatches that would cause persistent frame errors on a high-speed WAN link. It explicitly extends the standard SONET MIB (RFC 2558), depending on that standard for the base SONET path/section objects. It was deployed on Xedia routers with SONET/PoS WAN uplinks in carrier or enterprise backbone roles, and administrators can download the XEDIA-POS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XEDIA-POS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Xedia router with SONET/Packet-over-SONET interface

Monitoring Examples

xPosInterfaceConfTable/xPosInterfaceConfEntry expose per-interface configuration such as xPosConfigCrcMode (e.g., 16-bit versus 32-bit CRC); an admin would confirm this matches the far-end setting since a CRC mode mismatch causes persistent frame errors. Polling this alongside the standard SONET-MIB's path and section objects would reveal whether a SONET/PoS link is experiencing framing or signal-quality problems indicative of a bad fiber connection or line card.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PoS interface CRC mode configuration
  • PoS path/link status
  • transmission/frame error counters
