What Is XEDIA-DIALBACKUP-MIB?
XEDIA-DIALBACKUP-MIB is a legacy Xedia Corporation enterprise MIB for managing dial-backup functionality on Xedia's WAN access routers, where a dial-up (typically ISDN or analog modem) connection automatically activates when a primary leased-line interface fails. It exposes a configuration table that associates each primary interface with backup activation thresholds and timers, including failover and failback delay settings, plus a status object reporting the current dial-backup state. This is fundamentally a software/link-status monitoring capability: administrators use it to confirm whether the router has failed over to its dial-backup path, how long ago that occurred, and when it is expected (or configured) to fail back to the primary link, a key indicator of WAN interface health. It depends on the standard IF-MIB ifIndex convention (via dialBackupPrimaryInterface) to tie the dial-backup policy to a specific physical interface. This MIB is found in legacy Xedia (later Lucent-owned) WAN access router deployments from small/branch-office networks requiring dial-up resiliency for their primary circuit. Engineers can download the XEDIA-DIALBACKUP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XEDIA-DIALBACKUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Xedia (legacy Lucent) WAN access routers with dial-backup capability
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll dialBackupConfigurationTable (dialBackupConfigurationEntry) to check dialBackupStatus and confirm whether the router has switched to its dial-backup path for a given dialBackupPrimaryInterface. Reviewing dialBackupFailoverTime and dialBackupFailbackTime reveals how long the primary link needed to be down before backup activated and how long it must stay stable before failback occurs. A dialBackupStatus that shows "active" outside of a known maintenance window would immediately flag a primary WAN circuit outage needing attention.
What Can Be Monitored
- dial-backup activation status
- primary interface associated with backup
- failover delay/threshold
- failback delay/threshold
