Description: Monitors Wellfleet IGMP multicast group memberships, query intervals, and router interface statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-IGMP-MIB?

Wellfleet-IGMP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB (originally from Wellfleet Communications/Bay Networks, later Nortel) that models IGMP multicast group management on router interfaces. It exposes global IGMP state and tuning scalars (wfIgmpBaseEnable, wfIgmpBaseState, wfIgmpBaseEstimatedGroups, wfIgmpBaseVersionThreshold, wfIgmpBaseGroupCount), a per-interface wfIgmpIfTable carrying query rate, membership timeout, designated-router IP, protocol counters (wfIgmpIfInDatagrams, wfIgmpIfOutQueries, wfIgmpIfDiscards) and IGMP-Relay/failover fields, plus wfIgmpGroupTable, wfIgmpStaticGroupTable, and wfIgmpBoundaryTable for tracking dynamic memberships, statically configured groups, and administratively scoped address boundaries. This breadth of counters and state objects is useful for confirming that IGMP is running correctly on multicast-enabled interfaces and for diagnosing missing or dropped group memberships. It depends on IpAddress typing from RFC1155-SMI and the vendor's own Wellfleet-COMMON-MIB group root, and is deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers forwarding IP multicast traffic; administrators can download the Wellfleet-IGMP-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-IGMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers (later Nortel)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls wfIgmpIfTable for a given circuit (wfIgmpIfCctno) to check wfIgmpIfState and wfIgmpDesignatedRouter, then cross-references wfIgmpGroupTable entries for that circuit; if wfIgmpIfDiscards is climbing while wfIgmpIfGroupCount stays at zero, that combination points to malformed IGMP packets preventing hosts from being recognized as multicast receivers on that interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP interface state and designated router
  • query rate and membership timeout settings
  • IGMP datagram/query/discard counters
  • dynamic and static group membership tables
  • IGMP-Relay primary/backup forwarding state
  • administratively scoped boundary table entries
