Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks ATM

Description: Manages Wellfleet ATM LAN Emulation service parameters, ELAN memberships, and LE client status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-ATM-LE-MIB?

Wellfleet-ATM-LE-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications/Bay Networks covering ATM LAN Emulation (LANE) service on its routers, a technology that allows legacy Ethernet/Token Ring LAN traffic to run over an ATM backbone. It exposes configuration and status objects for emulated LAN (ELAN) memberships and the state of LAN Emulation Clients (LECs) connecting to those ELANs. It is used to monitor the software/service status of the LANE subsystem -- for instance whether a LEC has successfully joined its ELAN and is operational -- which is important because a failed LEC join effectively takes a bridged LAN segment offline even though the underlying ATM hardware may be healthy. It depends conceptually on the standard ATM Forum LANE specification and on Wellfleet's underlying ATM interface MIBs for physical-layer status. It was typically deployed in enterprise or carrier networks of the 1990s where ATM backbones carried emulated legacy LAN traffic between sites. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-ATM-LE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-ATM-LE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks router with ATM interfaces (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided, so this is inferred: an administrator would poll the ELAN membership and LEC status objects to confirm each LAN Emulation Client shows as successfully joined to its target ELAN. A LEC stuck in an initializing or failed-join state would explain why devices on that emulated LAN segment cannot reach each other, even if the ATM physical interface itself reports as up.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ELAN membership status
  • LAN Emulation Client (LEC) join/operational state
  • ATM LANE service status
