Category: World Wide Packets Metro Ethernet
Description: Monitors World Wide Packets system hardware status, software version, uptime, and operational health.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is WWP-SYSTEM-MIB?
WWP-SYSTEM-MIB is a World Wide Packets (a metro-Ethernet equipment vendor later acquired by Ciena) enterprise MIB that supplements the standard MIB-II system group with additional device-specific system information for their platforms. Its data covers overall system identity and operational health, extending beyond what the standard system group provides. As a monitoring tool it is explicitly aimed at hardware and software status checks: tracking system uptime, hardware operational health, and software version, giving administrators a consolidated view of whether the device is running the expected firmware and remains healthy. It is designed as a companion/supplement to the standard SNMPv2-MIB system group rather than replacing it, explicitly building on that IETF standard. It is typically deployed on World Wide Packets metro-Ethernet access and aggregation switches in carrier and enterprise Ethernet service networks. Engineers can download the WWP-SYSTEM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WWP-SYSTEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- World Wide Packets metro-Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module; consistent with its description, a typical check would involve polling system uptime and software version alongside overall operational health status, where an unexpected uptime reset would indicate an unplanned reboot and a software version mismatch would flag a device running out-of-date firmware.
What Can Be Monitored
- system uptime
- software version
- overall operational/health status
