Description: Manages World Wide Packets DNS client resolver configuration, server list, and domain search parameters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is WWP-DNS-CLIENT-MIB?
WWP-DNS-CLIENT-MIB is a World Wide Packets enterprise MIB (under the wwpModules tree) that manages the DNS resolver configuration on WWP Ethernet transport products. wwpDnsResolverEnable turns the resolver on or off, wwpDnsDomainAdminName is the configured search domain while wwpDnsDomainOperName reflects the operational domain actually in use (which can differ when DHCP supplies it instead). Two parallel tables track configured vs. operational name servers - wwpDnsNameAdminServerTable (read-write, with wwpDnsAdminServerStatus for row creation/deletion) and wwpDnsNameOperServerTable (read-only, reflecting servers learned via DHCP or falling back to admin config) - each keyed by a per-server index and IP address. This is a small, focused configuration MIB rather than a statistics MIB, so monitoring it mainly verifies that DNS resolution is enabled and pointed at the intended servers rather than measuring query traffic; administrators can grab the WWP-DNS-CLIENT-MIB download when adding WWP gear to their SNMP toolset.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WWP-DNS-CLIENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- World Wide Packets Ethernet transport/access products
Monitoring Examples
An operator compares wwpDnsNameAdminServerTable against wwpDnsNameOperServerTable to check whether the operational DNS servers actually in use match the statically configured ones; a mismatch combined with wwpDnsDomainOperName differing from wwpDnsDomainAdminName suggests DHCP-supplied DNS settings have silently overridden the admin configuration.
What Can Be Monitored
- DNS resolver enable/disable state
- configured vs. operational domain name
- configured DNS server table entries
- operational (DHCP-learned) DNS server table entries
- DNS server row status/lifecycle
