Description: Manages World Wide Packets generic IGMP snooping group membership and multicast stream forwarding control.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WWP-GENERIC-IGMP-SNOOP-MIB?

WWP-GENERIC-IGMP-SNOOP-MIB is a World Wide Packets (Ciena LEOS) proprietary MIB that manages generic IGMP snooping behavior on the device, controlling how multicast group membership is learned and how multicast streams are forwarded to only the ports that requested them. It exposes configuration data including snooping leave mode and inquiry/leave timeout settings (e.g., wwpGenIgmpSnoopLeaveMode, wwpGenIgmpSnoopInqLeaveTimeout), plus group membership and forwarding state. Its monitoring value is in verifying correct multicast delivery — confirming which ports are members of which multicast groups and whether leave/timeout settings are causing streams to be dropped or over-forwarded, which is a network-health/performance concern rather than physical hardware status. It builds on the standard IGMP protocol (RFC 2236/3376) applied at Layer 2 via snooping, working alongside the vendor's port/VLAN MIBs. It is deployed on World Wide Packets/Ciena LEOS Metro Ethernet devices carrying IPTV or other multicast services. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the WWP-GENERIC-IGMP-SNOOP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WWP-GENERIC-IGMP-SNOOP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • World Wide Packets / Ciena LEOS Metro Ethernet device

Monitoring Examples

Sample objects wwpGenIgmpSnoopLeaveMode and wwpGenIgmpSnoopInqLeaveTimeout are concrete configuration points; an admin would poll these to confirm the leave mode (e.g., fast-leave vs. normal) and inquiry timeout are set appropriately for the service, and would also check group membership/forwarding tables to see which ports are receiving a given multicast stream. An unexpectedly long leave timeout combined with a port still listed as a group member after a client has left would reveal wasted multicast bandwidth on that port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP snooping leave mode
  • inquiry/leave timeout settings
  • multicast group membership per port
  • multicast forwarding state
