What Is WLSR-AP-MIB?

WLSR-AP-MIB is a proprietary MIB, per its module description used for managing Access Points and Air Monitors, placing it in the enterprise wireless LAN intrusion-detection (WIDS/WIPS) technology area rather than general AP radio configuration. Its objects are oriented around detected wireless security events: a target AP's BSSID/SSID/channel, the frame type observed, source/receiver/transmitter and matched MAC/IP addresses, and the name of the signature that matched. It supports monitoring the software-detected security status of the wireless environment — rogue AP detection and signature-matched attack events — rather than classic hardware sensors like temperature or power supply state. It works alongside a base AP/Air Monitor MIB that presumably exposes standard radio/hardware operational objects, since this module supplies only the intrusion-detection trap/alert data. It is typically deployed in enterprise WLAN environments using dedicated Access Points and Air Monitor sensors for RF security monitoring. Engineers can download the WLSR-AP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WLSR-AP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • detected wireless intrusion signature matches
  • target/rogue AP BSSID and SSID
  • matched MAC/IP addresses of offending devices
  • wireless frame type of the detected event

Supported Devices

  • Wireless LAN Access Point / Air Monitor (WIDS/WIPS-capable enterprise WLAN system)

Monitoring Examples

When a wireless intrusion-detection trap fires from wlsrTrapObjectsGroup, an administrator would inspect wlsrSignatureName and wlsrMatchedMac/wlsrMatchedIp to identify which device triggered the match, cross-referencing wlsrTargetApBSSID and wlsrTargetApSSID to see which AP was targeted. Examining wlsrTransmitterMac/wlsrReceiverMac and wlsrFrameType would help pinpoint whether the event indicates a rogue AP or an active wireless attack in progress.
