What Is VMWARE-TC-MIB?

VMWARE-TC-MIB is a textual-convention MIB defining common SNMP data types shared across VMware's enterprise MIB modules for virtualization infrastructure management. As a TC-only module it contains no runtime object instances; it standardizes reusable types that other VMware MIBs (covering hosts, virtual machines, resource usage, and hardware health) rely on to represent their data consistently. Its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring is therefore indirect, underpinning the correct typing of status and performance data reported by VMware's other MIBs rather than exposing any status itself, so a VMWARE-TC-MIB OID is rarely looked up directly by an operator except when decoding an unfamiliar enumerated value referenced from another VMware MIB. No sample objects were supplied in this batch, consistent with it being a pure conventions module, so no object names can be cited. It is used wherever VMware ESXi/vCenter-managed virtualization infrastructure is monitored via SNMP, as a required import for the vendor's functional MIBs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VMWARE-TC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • VMware enterprise MIB family, entire range (ESXi/vCenter-managed virtualization infrastructure) (shared textual conventions, no data objects)

Monitoring Examples

This is a textual-conventions-only module supplying shared data type definitions for other VMware MIBs, with no runtime data objects of its own, so no monitoring scenario applies; actual host, VM, or hardware status objects are exposed in VMware's other enterprise MIBs that import these common types.
