Category: Alarm and Event Management, Domain: Fault Management, Textual Conventions and Registries
Description: Defines IANA-assigned textual conventions for ITU-T alarm management, including perceived severity and event type enumerations per M.3100 and X.733.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ITU-IANA-ALARM-TC?
ITU-IANA-ALARM-TC is a pure textual-convention (TC) module defining IANA-maintained enumerations for ITU-T alarm concepts—perceived severity and alarm/event types—per the M.3100 and X.733 recommendations, meant to be imported by other alarm-reporting MIBs. It does not itself expose monitorable runtime objects such as interfaces, counters, or device instances; instead it supplies standardized type definitions reused elsewhere. Its role in monitoring is indirect: by standardizing severity/type vocabulary (critical, major, minor, warning, cleared), it lets alarm systems built on top of it classify hardware and software faults consistently across vendors. Its notable dependency is that it is intended for import by other alarm MIBs and aligns with ITU-T M.3100 and X.733. It is used across any telecom or network-element implementation of standardized SNMP fault/alarm reporting. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the ITU-IANA-ALARM-TC RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ITU-IANA-ALARM-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- telecom/network elements implementing ITU-T-style alarm reporting
Monitoring Examples
This is a textual-convention-only module defining TCs such as alarm severity and event-type enumerations; it contains no runtime data objects or tables of its own, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe—it only supplies type definitions consumed by other MIBs.
