Category: VMware Virtualization
Description: Defines VMware Site Recovery Manager event notifications for replication and failover operations.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is VMWARE-SRM-EVENT-MIB?
VMWARE-SRM-EVENT-MIB defines VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) event notifications for disaster-recovery replication and failover operations across paired vCenter sites. It exposes trap varbinds identifying the affected virtual machine, the recovery plan and its type/state, the protected/recovery site, and the outcome of SRM commands. Its monitoring focus is squarely on software-level DR operation status: it tells an operator when a recovery plan starts, progresses, or completes, and whether a test or actual failover command succeeded or failed for a specific VM. It depends on an underlying vCenter/SRM deployment and its VM inventory for the identities (VM name/UUID, site names) carried in its notifications. It is deployed in enterprise disaster-recovery environments, where VMWARE-SRM-EVENT-MIB SNMP monitoring tracks VMware SRM operations across a protected and recovery vCenter site pair.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VMWARE-SRM-EVENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- VMware Site Recovery Manager server
- VMware vCenter-managed DR site pair
Monitoring Examples
The vmwSrmNotification trap carries varbinds like vmwSrmRecoveryName, vmwSrmRecoveryType, and vmwSrmRecoveryState to tell an admin that a specific disaster-recovery plan has started, is in progress, or completed. vmwSrmVmName and vmwSrmVmUuid identify which protected virtual machine the event concerns, while vmwSrmResult and vmwSrmCommandName report the outcome of an SRM command (e.g., test failover or actual failover) run against that VM. vmwSrmSiteString identifies the protected or recovery site involved, letting a DR operator correlate events across a paired vCenter/SRM site topology.
What Can Be Monitored
- recovery plan execution status
- recovery type (test vs. real failover)
- protected VM identity and state
- command execution result
- recovery site identification
