Description: Defines VMware NSX Manager SNMP agent capabilities for network virtualization monitoring compliance.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is VMWARE-NSX-MANAGER-AGENTCAP-MIB?

VMWARE-NSX-MANAGER-AGENTCAP-MIB is a small VMware AGENT-CAPABILITIES MIB, under vmwareAgentCapabilities, that declares what a deployed VMware NSX Manager SNMP agent actually supports rather than defining any managed objects of its own. Its single entry, vmwNSXManager2016x, ties the PRODUCT-RELEASE string '6.5.x' to SUPPORTS VMWARE-NSX-MANAGER-MIB, INCLUDES { vmwNsxManagerNotificationGroup1 }, explicitly noting the agent supports only SNMPv2c trap PDUs and describing all notifications sent from the NSX Manager appliance. Because it's purely a capability/compliance declaration, this MIB has no OBJECT-TYPE definitions to poll - it exists so a management station or MIB compiler can confirm which notification group an NSX Manager 6.5.x release will actually emit before relying on VMWARE-NSX-MANAGER-MIB traps. It's deployed as a companion reference alongside VMWARE-NSX-MANAGER-MIB wherever NSX Manager's SNMP trap support is documented, and administrators validating trap coverage for network virtualization monitoring consult the VMWARE-NSX-MANAGER-AGENTCAP-MIB reference before enabling alerting.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VMWARE-NSX-MANAGER-AGENTCAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • VMware NSX Manager appliance, release 6.5.x

Monitoring Examples

Before relying on NSX Manager traps for alerting, an administrator checks the vmwNSXManager2016x AGENT-CAPABILITIES entry to confirm the deployed 6.5.x release only sends SNMPv2c trap PDUs from vmwNsxManagerNotificationGroup1; discovering the agent doesn't support SNMPv3 informs how the NMS must be configured to receive those traps at all.

What Can Be Monitored

  • supported NSX Manager MIB version/release compatibility
  • supported notification group (vmwNsxManagerNotificationGroup1)
  • SNMP PDU version support (SNMPv2c traps only)
