Category: Firewall and Intrusion Prevention, Hardware and Power Management

Description: Manages TippingPoint TPA appliance hardware inventory, component status, and environmental monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPT-TPA-HARDWARE-MIB?

TPT-TPA-HARDWARE-MIB is a Trend Micro, Inc. MIB (the vendor of record following Trend Micro's acquisition of TippingPoint) that models the hardware inventory and component health of a TPA — a TippingPoint/Trend Micro security appliance — under the shared tpt-tpa-objs module tree. It defines hardware component tables including hw-slotTable (chassis slot inventory), hw-chasTable (chassis-level status), hw-fanTable (fan module presence/speed/status), hw-psTable (power supply presence and status), and hw-pemTable (power entry module status), giving a structured view of the appliance's physical health beyond simple up/down interface state. This is useful for monitoring environmental and hardware-redundancy conditions on the security appliance — failed fans or power supplies, missing chassis components — before they cause a service outage. It depends on the companion TPT-TPAMIBS-MIB module for its OID placement (tpt-tpa-objs, tpt-tpa-eventsV2, tpt-tpa-unkparams) and standard IF-MIB InterfaceIndex for interface correlation. It is deployed on TippingPoint TPA/TPS intrusion prevention appliances now sold under the Trend Micro brand; administrators can download the TPT-TPA-HARDWARE-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for that purpose.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPT-TPA-HARDWARE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TippingPoint TPA/TPS intrusion prevention appliances (Trend Micro)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hw-fanTable and hw-psTable across all appliance slots to confirm every fan and power supply reports a normal operating status; a power supply entry in hw-psTable reporting a failed or absent state would indicate the appliance is running without power redundancy and needs immediate attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chassis slot inventory
  • chassis-level hardware status
  • fan module presence/speed/status
  • power supply presence and status
  • power entry module status
