Description: Monitors TippingPoint IPS appliance health indicators including fan, power, and component status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPT-HEALTH-MIB?

TPT-HEALTH-MIB is a Trend Micro TippingPoint (formerly 3Com/HP) MIB for Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) appliances, dedicated to environmental hardware health: temperature, fan speed, and voltage/power sensors. It exposes per-sensor tables indexed by channel, each carrying a current value, a severity indicator, and configurable major/critical thresholds. This is a core hardware-health monitoring MIB: healthTempValue and healthTempSeverity per healthTempTable entry track temperature against healthTempMajor/healthTempCritical thresholds, while healthFanTable tracks per-fan speed/status, together forming an early-warning system against thermal or cooling failure. It likely complements the standard ENTITY-MIB (for physical component identification) and TippingPoint's own device-status/notification MIBs used to raise alarms from these readings. It's deployed on TippingPoint IPS appliances in enterprise and service-provider security infrastructure, where preventing a thermal or power-related outage of an inline security device is critical. Engineers can download the TPT-HEALTH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPT-HEALTH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TippingPoint (Trend Micro) IPS appliances

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls healthTempTable indexed by healthTempIndex and healthTempChannel to read healthTempValue and compares it against healthTempMajor and healthTempCritical thresholds. When healthTempSeverity escalates to critical, it signals imminent cooling failure risk to the appliance. healthFanTable, indexed by healthFanIndex, is polled similarly to detect a stalled or degraded fan before it causes the unit to overheat and force a bypass/shutdown.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-sensor temperature readings and severity
  • temperature threshold breach status (major/critical)
  • fan speed/status per fan
  • voltage/power sensor readings
