Description: Manages TippingPoint IPS port-to-segment mapping and traffic inspection path configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPT-PORT-MAPPING-MIB?

TPT-PORT-MAPPING-MIB is a Trend Micro TippingPoint IPS MIB that exposes the mapping between logical inspection ports and the physical slot/port hardware on a TippingPoint appliance, describing how traffic segments are wired through the device's inspection path. It exposes configuration/inventory data via a port mapping table linking logical slot/port/ifIndex values to physical slot/port/ifIndex values, plus the named traffic segment and VLAN ID associated with each physical port. Its monitoring relevance is about hardware topology and software configuration consistency: an administrator uses it to confirm that a given inspection segment is actually wired to the physical port they expect, which matters when diagnosing why traffic on a particular link isn't being inspected or is showing up under the wrong segment name. It is TippingPoint/Trend Micro proprietary and is normally used alongside the vendor's IPS interface and stacking MIBs rather than any IETF standard. It is deployed on TippingPoint IPS appliances configured for in-line traffic inspection across multiple physical network segments. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the TPT-PORT-MAPPING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPT-PORT-MAPPING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TippingPoint IPS appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll portMappingTable/portMappingEntry, cross-referencing portMappingLogicalSlot/portMappingLogicalPort against portMappingPhysicalSlot/portMappingPhysicalPort, to confirm that a given logical inspection interface is physically wired to the port they intended. If portMappingSegmentName shows an unexpected segment for a given physical port, or portMappingPhysicalVlanId doesn't match the expected VLAN, that reveals a cabling or configuration mismatch causing traffic to bypass the intended inspection policy.

What Can Be Monitored

  • logical-to-physical port mapping
  • segment name per physical port
  • VLAN ID per physical port
  • logical/physical ifIndex association
