Category: Firewall and Intrusion Prevention

Description: Manages TippingPoint IPS traffic service engine inspection queues, rules, and processing statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPT-TSE-MIB?

TPT-TSE-MIB is a Trend Micro TippingPoint MIB covering the Threat Suppression Engine (TSE), the core inspection engine of TippingPoint IPS appliances. It exposes configuration and performance data for adaptive filters and connection blocking: filter names, UUIDs, network segment, enabled state, associated signature ID and profile, plus tables of currently blocked connections. Its monitoring value spans both software status (which filters are active/enabled) and operational/performance status (top adaptive filters by rank, active connection blocks), letting administrators see what the inspection engine is actively enforcing and blocking in real time. It is closely related to TPT-NPSTATS-MIB, since network-processor statistics reflect the load generated by these same filters. It is deployed in enterprise and carrier security operations centers monitoring live IPS enforcement activity on TippingPoint appliances, and security teams can get a TPT-TSE-MIB download to load directly into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPT-TSE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TippingPoint (Trend Micro) IPS appliance

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll topTenAdaptFilterTable/topTenAdaptFilterEntry (topTenAdaptFilterRank, adaptFilterName, adaptFilterEnabledState, adaptFilterSigID) to see which adaptive filters are most active and confirm they remain enabled as expected. The connectionBlockTable/connectionBlockEntry (indexed by connectionBlockIndex) would be checked to see currently blocked connections, revealing active threat mitigation in progress. An adaptive filter unexpectedly showing a disabled adaptFilterEnabledState would indicate a gap in threat coverage for that signature.

What Can Be Monitored

  • top adaptive filters by activity rank
  • adaptive filter enabled/disabled state
  • adaptive filter signature ID and profile
  • currently blocked connections
