Description: Manages TippingPoint IPS blade bay slot inventory, module presence, and operational status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TPT-BAY-MIB?
TPT-BAY-MIB is a Trend Micro (formerly TippingPoint) vendor MIB for chassis-based Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) appliances, describing the physical bay/slot layout of the device. It exposes hardware inventory and status data: per-slot module presence, module type and serial number, module name, and slot status. Its primary monitoring value is hardware health tracking of pluggable IPS blades/modules, including per-slot temperature readings (slotTempTable) and operational/fault status, letting administrators detect a failed, missing, or overheating module. It has no significant dependency on other MIBs beyond the vendor's own TippingPoint MIB family (e.g., host and TSE MIBs) that describe the rest of the device. It is deployed in enterprise and data-center security environments running chassis-based TippingPoint IPS appliances, where TPT-BAY-MIB SNMP monitoring gives slot-level hardware health the visibility it needs.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPT-BAY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- TippingPoint (Trend Micro) chassis-based IPS appliance
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll slotTempTable/slotTempEntry (indexed by slotTempIndex) alongside slotStatus and slotModuleType to check the temperature and health state of each installed IPS blade. A rising value in the temperature entry combined with a slotStatus change would flag an overheating or failing module before it causes an outage, while slotModuleSerialNum and slotModuleName support hardware inventory audits. The tptSlotEvent object suggests slot-related trap notifications are also available for real-time alerting on module insertion/removal or failure.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-slot temperature
- slot/module operational status
- installed module type
- module serial number
- slot presence/insertion events
