Category: Multicast, Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks multicast VLAN registration group and port membership.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-MVR-MIB?

This Transition Networks MIB manages Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR), a feature that lets a single multicast VLAN deliver multicast streams (e.g., IPTV) to subscriber ports in different VLANs. It exposes global MVR mode configuration and per-interface MVR settings including VLAN ID, tagging mode, priority, and last-listener query interval (LLQI). It supports monitoring of the switch's multicast-service software configuration, letting an admin confirm which ports are operating as MVR receivers versus sources and clear/reset MVR statistics when troubleshooting stream delivery problems. It builds on the underlying IGMP snooping mechanism that MVR extends, though that dependency is implicit rather than explicitly imported here. It is typically deployed on Transition Networks access switches delivering multicast video/IPTV services to subscribers across VLAN boundaries, where TN-MVR-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm receiver ports are correctly configured for reliable multicast stream delivery.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-MVR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks access/edge Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check the tnMVRModeTable (tnMVRModeEntry) for the global tnMVRMode, then review the tnMVRInterfaceTable (tnMVRInterfaceEntry) to confirm a subscriber port's tnMVRInterfaceMode, tnMVRVID, and tnMVRInterfaceTagging settings. If a multicast stream isn't reaching a receiver port, verifying tnMVRName and tnMVRInterfacePriority against the expected multicast VLAN is a standard first step, and tnMVRStatisticsClear can reset counters before a fresh test. tnMVRInterfaceLLQI affects how quickly the switch detects a departed receiver.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MVR global mode
  • per-port MVR mode and VLAN assignment
  • interface tagging and priority
  • last-listener query interval
