Category: Firmware and Configuration Management

Description: Manages Tiara Networks WAN router configuration management, save, and restore operations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIARA-NETWORKS-CONFIG-MGMT-MIB?

TIARA-NETWORKS-CONFIG-MGMT-MIB (tiaranet-config.mib) is a vendor-specific MIB from Tiara Networks, Inc. that models configuration-management operations for its network devices, tracking configuration state across three locations: the running system (current), local NVRAM/flash, and a remote network server. It defines cfgNetOperTable and cfgFlashOperTable for initiating configure-from-network/flash and save-to-network/flash operations (each keyed by a random cfgNetOperRandomNumber or cfgFlashOperRandomNumber and reporting status via cfgNetOperStatus/cfgFlashOperStatus), plus cfgMgmtEvents scalars like cfgCurrentLastChanged, cfgCurrentLastSaved, and cfgMaxEvents that track when the configuration was last modified or persisted. This lets a management station remotely trigger config backup/restore actions and audit whether recent changes were saved, which is useful for configuration-drift and change-control monitoring. It relies on the TIARA-NETWORKS-SMI module for its enterprise OID root (tiaraMgmt) and is deployed alongside other Tiara Networks device MIBs, and administrators can download the TIARA-NETWORKS-CONFIG-MGMT-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIARA-NETWORKS-CONFIG-MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Tiara Networks network devices (config-management subsystem)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cfgCurrentLastChanged and cfgCurrentLastSaved to check whether a device's running configuration has been saved; if cfgCurrentLastChanged is more recent than cfgCurrentLastSaved, that indicates unsaved configuration changes that would be lost on reboot.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configure-from-network/flash operation status (cfgNetOperStatus, cfgFlashOperStatus)
  • configuration change/save timestamps (cfgCurrentLastChanged, cfgCurrentLastSaved)
  • configuration event history count (cfgMaxEvents)
  • operation source/destination medium (CfgMedium textual convention)
  • configuration file transfer parameters (cfgNetOperFileName, cfgNetOperAddress)
