Organization: CommWorks Corporation, a 3Com Company

Last Updated: 2002-08-23

Category: Network Access and Authentication

Description: Manages CommWorks/3Com terminal protection protocol sessions and security state for access devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TERM-PROT-MIB?

TERM-PROT-MIB is a CommWorks Corporation (a 3Com Company, U.S. Robotics heritage) proprietary MIB configuring Terminal Protocol (Telnet/rlogin) access on the commWorks remote-access platform. Its objects cover a config-modified flag, config file name, connected-message text, Telnet-escape enable, allow-manage-users flag, Telnet trying/disconnect message flags, Telnet client-access control, a Telnet-access table (IP address/mask, status), Telnet terminal-download mode, rlogin-escape enable, a banner-file setting, and a CTCP encryption table (ID, key, status). As a configuration/security MIB it lets an administrator confirm which IP addresses are permitted Telnet/rlogin terminal access and whether CTCP encryption is enforced. It is deployed on CommWorks (3Com/U.S. Robotics) remote-access platforms. Engineers can download the TERM-PROT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TERM-PROT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CommWorks (3Com/U.S. Robotics) remote-access platforms

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks usrTelnetAccessTable and usrCTCPEncryptionStatus to confirm which addresses can reach the terminal interface and whether encryption is enforced on a CommWorks (3Com) remote-access platform.
