What Is TELDAT-TRAP-RSTP-MIB?

TELDAT-TRAP-RSTP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Teldat defining SNMP trap notifications from the router's RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) event subsystem, used on Teldat devices with Layer-2 bridging/switching capability. It is a notifications-only module exposing trap variable bindings such as state machine name, resulting state, bridge ID, bridge port, interface, and circuit name. Its monitoring purpose is hardware/network topology fault visibility: it alerts a management station in real time when a bridge port's spanning-tree state machine transitions (e.g., moving into blocking, listening, or forwarding state), which is essential for detecting topology changes, loops, or link flapping in a switched network. It depends on the standard RSTP protocol (IEEE 802.1w) as implemented in Teldat router/switch software. It is typically deployed on Teldat routers with integrated switching used in redundant Layer-2 network topologies where spanning tree prevents loops. Engineers can download the TELDAT-TRAP-RSTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TELDAT-TRAP-RSTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Teldat enterprise/branch routers with integrated Layer-2 switch

Monitoring Examples

A monitoring system would receive a trap carrying rstp1-state-machine and rstp1-state to learn which RSTP state machine changed and to what state, along with rstp1-bridge-id, rstp1-bridge-port, and rstp1-interface to identify exactly which bridge and port were involved. Frequent traps referencing the same rstp2-bridge-port or rstp2-circuit-name transitioning between states would indicate port or link flapping, a common precursor to network instability.
