What Is TELDAT-TRAP-BAN-MIB?

TELDAT-TRAP-BAN-MIB is a Teldat router-specific MIB defining SNMP trap notifications generated by the router's bridge-layer event subsystem (the object naming convention 'ban' reflects Teldat's internal event source rather than a bandwidth-management feature). It exposes per-event varbind data captured at trigger time: bridge port, frame direction, frame length, source and destination MAC addresses, SAP values, and RIF (Route Information Field) routing data. Its monitoring role is oriented toward layer-2 fault and security event detection rather than classic hardware health metrics like temperature or CPU — traps fire when the bridging subsystem observes anomalous frames, letting an operator flag issues such as unexpected MAC pairs, bridging loops, or spoofed source addresses on a specific port. It is built on Teldat's private enterprise MIB tree and assumes an underlying 802.1D-style bridge implementation providing the event source data. It's deployed on Teldat routers/bridges in branch-office and WAN environments where layer-2 bridging is active and SNMP trap monitoring is used to catch anomalous bridged traffic. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the TELDAT-TRAP-BAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TELDAT-TRAP-BAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Teldat router/bridge

Monitoring Examples

When a banNotifications trap fires, its varbinds ban1-source-mac-address and ban1-dest-mac-address identify the MAC pair involved while ban1-bridge-port names the port where the event occurred; ban1-direction and ban1-len describe the frame's direction and size. An admin seeing repeated traps referencing the same unexpected source MAC across different ban1-bridge-port values would suspect MAC spoofing or a bridging loop on that segment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bridge event source/destination MAC address
  • bridge port of triggering frame
  • frame direction and length
  • SAP and RIF data of triggering frame
