Description: Defines Teldat router BFD (Bidirectional Forwarding Detection) event trap notifications.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TELDAT-TRAP-BFD-MIB?

TELDAT-TRAP-BFD-MIB is a Teldat-specific notification-only MIB defining SNMP traps generated by the router's Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) event subsystem, used to rapidly detect failures in the forwarding path between adjacent devices. It does not expose polled runtime data objects but instead defines a series of numbered trap events (bfd2 through bfd10 in the sample set) each carrying varbinds such as peer address, protocol version, session discriminator, and packet details. Its monitoring value is fault-oriented rather than status-polling: these traps notify an operator in near-real-time when a BFD session's peer relationship changes, aiding fast detection of link or neighbor failures that BFD is specifically designed to catch faster than routing protocol timers. It depends on the underlying BFD protocol implementation and associated routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP) that rely on BFD for fast failure detection. It is deployed on Teldat routers running BFD-enabled links in networks requiring sub-second failure detection, with the TELDAT-TRAP-BFD-MIB typically loaded into a MIB Browser to decode incoming trap varbinds.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TELDAT-TRAP-BFD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Teldat router with BFD-enabled links

Monitoring Examples

Because this is a trap-only conformance-style MIB rather than a table of polled objects, there is no ongoing monitoring scenario of walking a MIB table; instead, an administrator's SNMP trap receiver would capture events like bfd3-peer-address or bfd6-session-disc whenever a BFD session state changes, alerting on a lost or re-established peer. The bfd4-protocol-version and bfd5-packet-legth varbinds included with certain traps provide diagnostic detail about the specific BFD packet that triggered the event, which can help distinguish a version mismatch or malformed packet from a genuine link failure. bfdEventsGroup and bfdNotifications define the overall set of trap events the device can emit for this subsystem.
