Category: Alarms and Events, Timing and Synchronization
Description: Defines Symmetricom trap notifications for timing alarms, reference failures, and device faults.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SYMTRAP-MIB?
SYMTRAP-MIB is a private MIB (enterprise OID 1123) reporting SCSI storage-controller identity and S.M.A.R.T. error detail, likely paired with an accompanying trap-definition module. Its objects cover MIB major/minor revision, manager name/version, controller name, SCSI controller/channel/target/LUN addressing, vendor name, product name, controller model, PCI bus number, S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic data, and an error-type object. As a hardware-status MIB it lets an administrator identify exactly which SCSI device (controller/channel/target/LUN) a reported S.M.A.R.T. or error condition applies to. It is deployed on this vendor's SCSI storage controller platform. Engineers can download the SYMTRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SYMTRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Symbios/LSI SCSI storage controller platform
Monitoring Examples
An administrator uses scsiController/scsiChannel/scsiTarget/scsiLun together with scsiSmartData to identify exactly which physical disk reported a S.M.A.R.T. warning.
What Can Be Monitored
- SCSI device identity and S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic data

RFC description
SNMP trap management MIB for network devices that enables monitoring and management of SNMP trap events and trap-related configurations through SNMP protocol.
Start monitoring Symbios/LSI SCSI storage controller platform, legacy (S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic/error identification) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
