Category: IP Services and Protocols, Switch Management - Raisecom

Description: Manages Raisecom switch SNTP client configuration, server addresses, and time synchronization state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SWITCH-SNTP-MIB?

This MIB manages the SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol) client and server functions on Raisecom switches, part of Raisecom's private enterprise MIB tree for its access and metro Ethernet switch line. It exposes configuration data for both the switch's own SNTP server role (broadcast address, send interval) and its SNTP client role (upstream server address, listen/get behavior). Its monitoring value is mainly around software/service status rather than physical hardware: whether the client is successfully retrieving time from its configured server, which underpins accurate timestamps for syslog and SNMP trap correlation. It relies on the standard SNTP/NTP protocol semantics defined outside this MIB, and is used purely as a private management wrapper around that behavior rather than depending on another management MIB. It is deployed on Raisecom access and metro Ethernet switches where accurate device clocks matter for log correlation and troubleshooting. Engineers can download the SWITCH-SNTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SWITCH-SNTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Raisecom switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check rcSntpClientAddress to confirm the switch is pointed at the correct upstream time source, and use rcSntpClientGet together with rcSntpClientListenEnable to verify the client is actively synchronizing. On the server side, rcSntpServerEnable, rcSntpServerBroadcastAddress, and rcSntpServerSendInterval show whether and how the switch is itself acting as a time source for downstream devices. A client that repeatedly fails to update via rcSntpClientGet would reveal a time-sync problem causing skewed log timestamps.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SNTP client sync status
  • SNTP server configuration
  • configured time server address
  • sync interval
