Category: Switch Management - D-Link

Description: Manages IGMP snooping configuration, group membership, and multicast forwarding on switch ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SW-IGMP-MIB?

SW-IGMP-MIB is a switch-vendor MIB for managing IGMP snooping, a Layer 2 feature that lets a switch inspect IGMP multicast group membership traffic to restrict multicast forwarding to only the ports with interested receivers. It exposes configuration for enabling or disabling IGMP snooping, the learned multicast group membership state, and the resulting multicast forwarding entries per port or VLAN. Monitoring it confirms the software feature is active and functioning correctly, revealing problems such as multicast flooding across all ports (when snooping silently fails) or stale/missing group memberships that indicate a control-plane fault. It builds on the standard IGMP protocol concepts even though it is implemented here as a vendor-specific switch extension rather than the IETF IGMP MIB itself. It is typically deployed on managed switches carrying IPTV, video conferencing, or other multicast-heavy traffic where efficient, loop-free multicast delivery must be verified. Engineers can download the SW-IGMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SW-IGMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link ES2000 'Golf' series managed switch (Marconi enterprise OID branding)

Monitoring Examples

No concrete object or table names were provided in the sampled source for this MIB. Typically an admin would poll this MIB's per-port or per-VLAN snooping-enable objects to confirm IGMP snooping is active, and check the learned multicast group membership table to verify expected receivers are registered. Unexpected multicast flooding to ports with no registered members would indicate the snooping feature has failed or was disabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP snooping enable/disable state
  • learned multicast group membership
  • multicast forwarding table entries
  • per-port/VLAN snooping status
