Description: Defines Sun Cluster event notifications for resource group state changes and cluster fault events.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SUN-CLUSTER-EVENTS-MIB?
SUN-CLUSTER-EVENTS-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Sun Microsystems (now Oracle) that monitors the Solaris Cluster (Sun Cluster) event framework, exposing a table of cluster-generated events such as resource-group state changes and fault conditions. It provides an events table recording each event's cluster ID/name, originating node, event class and subclass, severity, and initiator, giving visibility into the high-availability clustering software's operational history. Monitoring this MIB is central to tracking cluster software health, since event severity and subclass reveal whether a node has failed, a resource group has failed over, or another fault has occurred, complementing hardware-level monitoring with cluster-software-level fault detection. It depends on the underlying Solaris Cluster event framework and typically coexists with Sun/Oracle hardware-monitoring MIBs covering the physical servers in the cluster. It is deployed on Sun/Oracle SPARC or x86 servers running Solaris Cluster software in high-availability clustered configurations, and administrators can download the SUN-CLUSTER-EVENTS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SUN-CLUSTER-EVENTS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Sun/Oracle server running Solaris Cluster (Sun Cluster) software
- SPARC or x86 cluster node
Monitoring Examples
Polling escEventTableCount gives a quick indicator of how many events have accumulated, while walking escEventsTable/escEventsEntry (keyed by eventIndex) exposes eventClusterName, eventNodeName, eventClassName/eventSubclassName, and eventSeverity for each recorded event. An admin would watch for high-severity entries with eventInitiator indicating an unexpected node or resource-group failover, which would signal a cluster fault requiring investigation.
What Can Be Monitored
- cluster event count
- event severity
- event class/subclass
- originating cluster node
- resource group/cluster fault events
