Description: Defines Oracle/Sun hardware trap notifications for component failures and environmental alerts.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SUN-HW-TRAP-MIB?

SUN-HW-TRAP-MIB is an Oracle Corporation (Sun Microsystems hardware heritage, enterprise OID 42) proprietary MIB defining hardware-related notification/trap objects for Oracle/Sun server platforms. Its trap-varbind objects cover system identifier, component name, threshold type/value, sensor value, suspect-component name, fault class/certainty, additional info, associated object ID, old/new HA (High Availability) state, severity, chassis ID, product name, hard-drive state, fault message ID/UUID, disable reason, test message, hard-drive/drive-controller/storage-volume probable cause, event time, and diagnostic entity. As a notification MIB it lets an administrator receive a fully-diagnosed hardware fault — including FRU-level probable cause and fault certainty — from an Oracle/Sun server. It is deployed on Oracle (Sun Microsystems heritage) server platforms. Engineers can download the SUN-HW-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SUN-HW-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Oracle (Sun Microsystems heritage) server platforms

Monitoring Examples

An administrator reads sunHwTrapFaultClass and sunHwTrapHardDriveProbableCause from a received trap to diagnose a failing disk on an Oracle (Sun) server without checking the console.
