Category: SNMP Management, SNMP Research

Description: Provides SNMP Research agent version, capability, and configuration identification objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SR-AGENT-INFO-MIB?

SR-AGENT-INFO-MIB is a vendor MIB from SNMP Research (a long-standing SNMP agent software vendor) used to identify basic properties of the SNMP agent process running on a managed device, rather than device hardware itself. It exposes a descriptive text object identifying the agent and an OS-flavor object indicating which operating system variant the agent is running on top of, grouped under a conformance-style object grouping. Its monitoring value is software-status oriented: it lets a management station confirm which SNMP agent implementation and OS platform a device is reporting, useful for troubleshooting agent-version-specific bugs, confirming a device runs the expected embedded OS, or auditing agent software across a fleet of devices. As an agent-identity MIB it typically supplements standard SNMPv2-MIB sysDescr/sysObjectID information rather than replacing it. It is deployed on any networked device or appliance that embeds an SNMP Research agent, across many OEM hardware platforms. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the SR-AGENT-INFO-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SR-AGENT-INFO-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, embedded in devices from OEMs licensing the SNMP Research agent; applicable to a wide range of network-managed hardware

Monitoring Examples

A management station reads srAgentInfoDescr and srAgentInfoOSFlavor to confirm the exact SNMP Research agent build and underlying OS flavor a device is running, which helps explain agent-specific quirks or bugs seen only on certain firmware/OS combinations during a fleet-wide audit. srAgentInfoGroups is a conformance grouping used to declare which of these identity objects an implementation supports rather than a data object itself.
