Category: SNMP Management, SNMP Research, Textual Conventions

Description: Defines SNMP Research textual conventions used across SNMP Research management MIB modules.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SR-TC?

SR-TC is a support MIB from SNMP Research (a long-standing SNMP agent/toolkit vendor) that defines shared textual conventions (TCs) — custom data types and formatting rules — used across other SNMP Research management MIB modules. Like other TC-only modules, it does not define runtime scalars or tables itself; it exists to standardize how values (such as specialized string or enumerated types) are represented consistently across the vendor's MIB suite. Its role in hardware/software status monitoring is therefore indirect: it provides the type definitions that other SNMP Research MIBs use when reporting agent status or configuration values, rather than exposing any status itself. Every other SNMP Research MIB that uses these custom types depends on SR-TC being loaded first, making it a foundational, cross-cutting dependency within that MIB family. It appears in any deployment where SNMP Research's agent software or related MIBs are in use, purely as a supporting type-definition module. Engineers can download the SR-TC file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SR-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • devices running SNMP Research agent software

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided, and as a pure textual-conventions module SR-TC defines no monitorable tables or scalars of its own — it only supplies data types imported by other SNMP Research MIBs.
