What Is SONUS-EVENT-LOG-MIB?

SONUS-EVENT-LOG-MIB is a vendor MIB from Sonus Networks for configuring and monitoring the event/system logging subsystem on their softswitch and media gateway platforms. It exposes per-log-type configuration (administrative state, file count and size limits, in-memory message queue size, storage/base directory, save destination, maximum in-memory event size, and severity filter level) along with a status table reflecting current logging state for each event type. This MIB monitors software/system status rather than physical hardware: it lets operators confirm logging subsystems are active and correctly capturing events at the desired severity, and detect problems like log storage nearing capacity, filter misconfiguration causing lost diagnostic data, or logging being administratively disabled unexpectedly. It depends on the SONUS-SMI enterprise root and typically works alongside SONUS-NODE-RESOURCES-MIB and other Sonus platform MIBs to correlate logged events with underlying hardware/software conditions. Typical deployment context is carrier-grade softswitch and SS7/VoIP gateway deployments where detailed, severity-filtered event logs are essential for troubleshooting call-processing and signaling issues, and administrators typically download the SONUS-EVENT-LOG-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser before enabling this logging.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SONUS-EVENT-LOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sonus Networks (Ribbon Communications) softswitch/media gateway platform

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll sonusEvLogTypeStatusTable alongside sonusEvLogTypeTable/sonusEvLogTypeEntry to confirm a given event log type's sonusEvLogTypeAdminState is enabled and its sonusEvLogTypeFilterLevel is set to the desired severity (e.g., warning or above). Monitoring sonusEvLogTypeFileSize and sonusEvLogTypeFileCount against the configured sonusEvLogTypeBaseDirectory storage location would reveal when log rotation is about to exhaust disk space. A sonusEvLogTypeFileMsgQueue nearing its sonusEvLogTypeMaxEventMemSize limit would indicate events are being generated faster than they can be flushed to disk, risking lost diagnostic data during a fault burst.

What Can Be Monitored

  • event log admin state
  • log severity filter level
  • log file size/count limits
  • in-memory event queue utilization
  • log storage directory usage
