Category: Cisco Devices, Device Management, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for NTP clock synchronization management on Cisco routing and switching platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-NTP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-NTP-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module documenting SNMP agent support for the companion CISCO-NTP-MIB, which manages Network Time Protocol clock synchronization on Cisco routing and switching platforms. It carries no runtime objects of its own, only declarations of which CISCO-NTP-MIB groups and variations a given agent implements. As such it plays no direct role in monitoring NTP synchronization status or clock health—that belongs to CISCO-NTP-MIB itself. It exists solely as a conformance companion to, and is meaningless without, CISCO-NTP-MIB. It is used by MIB tooling and NMS platforms consulting the CISCO-NTP-CAPABILITY MIB for capability negotiation, not operational monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-NTP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco router or switch (NTP-capable platform)

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module with no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty), so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe; it only records which parts of CISCO-NTP-MIB a particular agent implements.
