Category: Legacy and Compatibility MIBs, SNA and Legacy WAN Protocols

Description: Manages SNA (Systems Network Architecture) network topology, sessions, and PU/LU resource configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SNANET-MIB?

SNANET-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB, apparently from Unisys, for managing IBM Systems Network Architecture (SNA) network resources on a gateway/node device, covering SNA network topology and node-level configuration. It exposes a type-5 (host/subarea) node table describing domain name, operational state, subarea number, SSCP name/ID, network name, and associated PU (Physical Unit) name, alongside general product-information objects. This MIB is centered on monitoring the software/operational status of SNA network resources: t5nodeOperState in particular reports whether an SNA subarea node is up, down, or in another operational condition, which is the key fault-detection signal for an SNA gateway. It is a self-contained vendor MIB reflecting proprietary SNA gateway implementation rather than an extension of any standard IETF MIB, since SNA management predates and sits outside the TCP/IP MIB framework. It is typically deployed on SNA-to-IP gateway or front-end-processor-class devices bridging legacy mainframe SNA traffic onto modern networks. Engineers can download the SNANET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNANET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Unisys SNA gateway/front-end processor

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll t5nodeTable/t5nodeEntry, indexed by t5nodeIndex, to check t5nodeOperState for a given SNA node, detecting when a subarea node has gone down or is degraded. t5nodeSscpName, t5nodeSscpId, and t5nodeNetworkName confirm the node is correctly registered with the expected System Services Control Point and SNA network identity. t5nodeDomainName and t5nodePuName would be checked together to confirm a specific SNA domain and Physical Unit are correctly configured and active on the gateway.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SNA subarea node operational state
  • SSCP name and ID
  • SNA network name
  • domain name
  • PU (Physical Unit) name
