Description: MIB for the SNTP client on SmartOptics SiteLight network elements, configuring unicast or broadcast time synchronization mode, poll interval, and retry behavior

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SL-SNTP-MIB?

SL-SNTP-MIB is a SmartOptics proprietary MIB for the SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol) client running on SiteLight optical network elements used in metro/optical transport networking. It exposes configuration objects for the SNTP client's mode (unicast or broadcast), server address, poll interval, retry count, protocol version, priority, and timezone/daylight-saving settings, along with row status for managed SNTP server entries and a traps group for related notifications. Its monitoring role is centered on software/configuration status - ensuring the device's time-synchronization client is correctly configured and, via associated traps, alerting when synchronization behavior changes - accurate device time being important for correlating logs, alarms, and performance data across the network. It depends on the standard SNTP/NTP protocol definitions it configures a client for, and complements the vendor's broader SiteLight element-management MIB suite. It is deployed on SmartOptics SiteLight optical network elements in service-provider or enterprise optical transport networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the SL-SNTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-SNTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • SmartOptics SiteLight optical network element

Monitoring Examples

An operator can poll slSntpConfigTable / slSntpConfigEntry to verify slSntpConfigAddress and slSntpConfigVersion point to the correct authoritative time source, and check slSntpConfigPriority when multiple servers are configured for failover. slSntpConfigPollInterval and slSntpConfigRetryCount reveal how aggressively the client re-synchronizes and retries after a failed poll, useful when diagnosing clock drift. The slSntpConfigMode object (unicast vs. broadcast) combined with slSntpConfigRowStatus lets an admin confirm which time-sync entries are active versus provisioned-but-disabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SNTP client mode
  • configured time server address
  • poll interval
  • retry count
  • server priority
  • row status of SNTP entries
  • timezone/daylight-saving configuration
