Description: MIB for Layer-2 topology discovery on SmartOptics SiteLight optical transport network elements, tracking L2 links by local/remote IP, port, and MAC address
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SL-L2TOPOLOGY-MIB?
SL-L2TOPOLOGY-MIB is a Smartoptics SiteLight MIB providing automatic Layer-2 topology discovery among network elements in a SiteLight optical transport network. It exposes a table of discovered L2 links, each identified by the local and remote IP address, port, and MAC address (plus a target-ID field), along with a timestamp of the last topology change and a trap-enable control. Its monitoring purpose is primarily software/network-topology status: an operator polls this data to build or confirm a live map of how SiteLight nodes are physically interconnected at Layer 2, and the last-change timestamp combined with change traps flags unexpected topology shifts (e.g., a link moved or a node added/removed) that could indicate a fault or unauthorized change. It relies on standard Ethernet/MAC addressing concepts and complements the platform's Ethernet and optical MIBs that describe the links this topology data traverses. It is deployed across Smartoptics SiteLight optical network deployments to give NMS software an automatically discovered view of the physical L2 network layout, and administrators can download the SL-L2TOPOLOGY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-L2TOPOLOGY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Smartoptics SiteLight optical transport equipment
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll topologyL2LinkTable/topologyL2LinkEntry to compare topologyL2LinkLocalIp/topologyL2LinkLocalMac against topologyL2LinkRemoteIp/topologyL2LinkRemoteMac for each discovered link, verifying the network's actual physical connectivity matches the intended design. topologyL2LastChange shows when the topology last shifted, and if topologyL2ChangeTrapEnable is set, an unexpected trap firing would alert the NOC that a node or link in the optical network changed without a planned maintenance window.
What Can Be Monitored
- discovered L2 link local/remote IP, port, MAC
- topology last-change timestamp
- topology-change trap enable status
