Description: MIB for managing multi-chassis physical topology, slot IDs, GNE node roles, and VRRP IP addressing on Smartoptics network elements

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SL-CHASSIS-MIB?

SL-CHASSIS-MIB is a Smartoptics vendor MIB for the SiteLight optical transport product line, describing multi-chassis physical topology in systems built from multiple interconnected chassis/slots. It exposes each node's slot ID, its role in the topology (including Gateway Network Element/GNE designation), VRRP virtual IP addressing used for LAN and OSC (Optical Supervisory Channel) redundancy, and a per-slot table listing internal IP address, role, and product type for every slot in the chassis group. Its main use for monitoring is configuration and topological/software status: an operator checks node role and VRRP state to confirm the correct chassis is acting as the redundant gateway and that slot roles/product types match the intended physical build, catching a misconfigured or newly-inserted card before it disrupts management access. It depends on standard VRRP concepts for its virtual-IP redundancy model and complements other SL-*-MIB modules (Ethernet, optical, alarms) that describe the traffic-bearing functions of the same chassis. It is deployed in Smartoptics SiteLight multi-chassis optical transport and DWDM installations where several physical chassis are managed as one logical network element. Engineers can download the SL-CHASSIS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-CHASSIS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Smartoptics SiteLight multi-chassis optical transport equipment

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll slChassisSlotTable/slChassisSlotEntry (indexed by slChassisSlotId) to confirm slChassisSlotRole and slChassisSlotProductType match the expected slot layout, and check slChassisInfoNodeRole plus slChassisInfoVrrpEnable to verify which chassis currently holds the GNE/master role via slChassisInfoLanVrrpIp. A mismatch between slChassisSlotInternalIp and the expected management address for a slot would flag a misconfigured or swapped card in the multi-chassis group.

What Can Be Monitored

  • node slot ID and role (GNE/member)
  • VRRP virtual IP for LAN/OSC redundancy
  • chassis topology configuration
  • slot product type
  • VRRP enable status
