Category: RAID and Storage Management

Description: Manages SCC RAID7 array configuration, logical volumes, parity groups, and rebuild status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SCC-RAID7-MIB?

SCC-RAID7-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from SCC, a RAID storage subsystem vendor, for managing RAID7-series storage array controllers. It exposes controller-level status such as firmware/system version, total and available memory, and cache hit percentage, along with block/volume configuration (block size, number of blocks) and per-host-channel configuration and status. Its monitoring value strongly emphasizes hardware and performance status of the storage subsystem: raid7SysVersion reports firmware version, raid7TotalMem/raid7GoodMem/raid7MemAvail reveal controller memory health (a drop in raid7GoodMem could indicate failing memory), and raid7CacheHitPercent is a key performance indicator for cache efficiency, while the channel and block tables let an administrator confirm each host interface channel and logical block configuration are correctly reported. It does not appear to build on a standard storage MIB and instead defines its own SCC-proprietary object tree. It is deployed by storage administrators managing SCC RAID7 disk arrays in server/SAN environments needing block-level storage monitoring, typically starting with an SCC-RAID7-MIB download to compile into their monitoring platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SCC-RAID7-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • SCC RAID7 storage array controller

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll raid7CacheHitPercent regularly to track cache efficiency, where a sustained drop could indicate a workload change or a failing cache module, alongside raid7GoodMem and raid7MemAvail to detect controller memory degradation. raid7BlockTable / raid7BlockEntry rows would be checked for raid7BlockSize and raid7NumBlocks to confirm logical volume geometry matches expectations, while raid7ChannelTable / raid7ChannelEntry rows (alongside raid7NumHostChannels) would be polled to verify each host channel is present and reporting correctly.

What Can Be Monitored

  • system/firmware version
  • total, good, and available controller memory
  • cache hit percentage
  • block size and block count
  • host channel configuration/count
