TEXTUAL-CONVENTION

What Is SAMSUNG-GENERAL-TC?

SAMSUNG-GENERAL-TC is a Samsung enterprise textual-conventions MIB that does not itself expose manageable objects but instead defines shared data types used across Samsung's family of device MIBs (part of the SCMI, Samsung Common Management Interface). It defines constructs such as split 64-bit counters/gauges/integers (high/low word pairs), coded country and language enumerations, and indexed string types, which other Samsung MIBs import to represent large counters or standardized country/language codes. Because it is purely a type-definition module rather than a data or notification module, it does not itself provide any hardware or software status information; its value is entirely as a dependency for other Samsung MIBs that do expose real monitoring data. This module is explicitly a dependency root for the broader Samsung SCMI MIB suite, as noted in its own description referencing "SCMI General TC." It would only be encountered as an imported support module alongside other Samsung network-equipment MIBs, not deployed or polled on its own. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the SAMSUNG-GENERAL-TC file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SAMSUNG-GENERAL-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral within Samsung's own product line -- a support/dependency module for Samsung network equipment MIBs, not a standalone device MIB

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only textual conventions (e.g., sCmGenCounter64High/sCmGenCounter64Low pairs used to represent 64-bit counters on platforms lacking native Counter64 support, and sCmGenCodedCountry/sCmGenCodedLanguage enumerations) rather than runtime data or tables, so there is no direct monitoring scenario for this module by itself. Other Samsung device MIBs import these types to build their own pollable objects.
