What Is SCTE-ROOT?

SCTE-ROOT is the organizational root MIB defining the top-level enterprise OID arc for the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), under which all SCTE/CableLabs Headend Management System (HMS) and related cable-industry MIBs are registered. It does not itself define management objects for any device subsystem; instead it establishes the scteRoot and scteHmsTree OID nodes that other SCTE MIBs (covering cable headend equipment such as modulators, RF amplifiers, and other HMS-managed devices) attach beneath. As a pure namespace/registration module it carries no monitorable data of its own, so it has no direct role in reporting uptime, temperature, CPU/memory, or fault status; its role is purely structural. Every SCTE HMS-family MIB that defines actual device management objects depends on this root MIB for its OID placement in the tree. It is typically encountered indirectly wherever cable headend/HMS equipment MIBs are compiled, since those MIBs import their root node from this module rather than being deployed as monitoring targets in their own right. Engineers can download the SCTE-ROOT file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SCTE-ROOT. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • cable headend/HMS equipment in general

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/registration module, not a runtime data MIB: it defines only scteRoot and scteHmsTree as OID anchor points, with no tables, scalars, or notifications carrying monitorable device data. Consequently there is no realistic polling scenario to describe for this module itself; monitoring occurs instead against the specific SCTE HMS device MIBs that import and register beneath these root nodes.
