What Is RUCKUS-ZD-SYSTEM-MIB?

RUCKUS-ZD-SYSTEM-MIB is a Ruckus Wireless enterprise MIB providing system-level information for the ZoneDirector wireless LAN controller, which centrally manages Ruckus wireless access points. It exposes identity and inventory objects (system name, IP/MAC address, model, serial number, firmware version, country code), operational status (uptime), and licensing/capacity limits (licensed AP count, maximum stations), along with administrative account settings. Its monitoring role directly covers hardware and software status: ruckusZDSystemUptime tracks controller availability, ruckusZDSystemVersion reports the running firmware, and ruckusZDSystemLicensedAPs/ruckusZDSystemMaxSta let an administrator see whether the controller is approaching its licensed AP or client-capacity limits, a common operational concern in WLAN deployments. It is a proprietary Ruckus module, though ZoneDirector systems typically also expose companion MIBs for individual AP and client statistics used alongside this system MIB. An administrator would poll ruckusZDSystemUptime to confirm the ZoneDirector controller hasn't unexpectedly rebooted, and ruckusZDSystemVersion to verify all controllers in a multi-site deployment are running the same firmware. Checking ruckusZDSystemLicensedAPs against the actual number of connected APs and ruckusZDSystemMaxSta against current client counts would reveal whether the controller is nearing its licensed capacity, prompting a license upgrade before growth is blocked.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ruckusZDSystemStatsWLANTotalRxPkts OID:

Select a Ruckus ZoneDirector wireless LAN controller (system identity/uptime/licensing status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ruckusZDSystemStatsWLANTotalRxPkts into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the total received packets of wireless interfaces. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
