Description: Adds BGP routing configuration and status monitoring capabilities to Radlan/Marvell switch platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RADLAN-BGP?
RADLAN-BGP is a private MIB module developed by Radlan (now part of Marvell) extending Border Gateway Protocol configuration and status monitoring on switch platforms built on Radlan/Marvell reference designs. It exposes BGP-specific configuration parameters and routing/peering status information layered on top of standard BGP MIB objects. While primarily a routing-configuration MIB, it can be used to check the software-level operational status of the BGP process, such as peer session states, which reflects the health of the routing control plane on the device. It notably extends and depends on the standard BGP4-MIB (RFC 4273) for baseline objects, adding vendor-specific enhancements. It is typically deployed on Layer 3 switches and small-to-midsize routers built on Radlan/Marvell switching silicon and software stacks. Engineers can download the RADLAN-BGP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-BGP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Radlan/Marvell-based Layer 3 switches and routers
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll BGP peer status and configuration objects to confirm neighbor sessions are established and routes are being exchanged as expected on a Radlan-based switch. A peer stuck in an idle or connect state rather than established would reveal a misconfigured neighbor or network reachability problem. Vendor-specific extension objects would be checked alongside standard BGP4-MIB peer tables for a complete picture of routing health.
What Can Be Monitored
- BGP peer session state
- BGP configuration parameters
- routing process status
- peer-specific extensions beyond standard BGP4-MIB
