What Is RSTONE-SMI-MIB?
RSTONE-SMI-MIB is the Structure of Management Information module for Riverstone Networks Inc., defining the enterprise's top-level private OID hierarchy under which all other Riverstone-specific MIBs and product identifiers are registered. As an SMI module it carries no monitoring data of its own; it exists purely to establish the enterprise namespace for Riverstone's management objects. Its practical role in monitoring is enabling correct interpretation and organization of every other Riverstone MIB, including product identification (RIVERSTONE-PRODUCTS-MIB) and any feature-specific MIBs for interfaces, environment, or routing on RS-series switches. It depends entirely on the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprises arc as its parent registration point. It is deployed implicitly wherever Riverstone RS-series switches/routers are managed via SNMP, as the naming foundation underlying all vendor-specific polling. Any tool that walks or browses the RSTONE-SMI-MIB MIB will find only these root definitions, with no scalars or tables to poll directly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RSTONE-SMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- enterprise OID registration for other Riverstone MIBs
Supported Devices
- Riverstone Networks RS-series switches/routers
Monitoring Examples
A management application relies on the OID branches defined in RSTONE-SMI-MIB to correctly parse and namespace any Riverstone-specific object it encounters, such as those in RIVERSTONE-PRODUCTS-MIB for sysObjectID-based model identification. Without this SMI module loaded, an NMS could not properly resolve Riverstone's private enterprise OIDs into readable object names.
