Category: Network Management Tools, Vendor SMI and Registration
Description: Defines PySNMP Python SNMP library base OID assignments, enterprise structure, and module identification objects.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PYSNMP-MIB?
This MIB module defines the top-level enterprise OID structure for the PySNMP Python SNMP library itself, registering the tree branches used by PySNMP's own examples, agent implementations, and module identifiers. Its content is purely structural/registration data — branch definitions for objects, examples, enumerations, module IDs, agent OIDs, and domains — rather than any device telemetry. It exposes no hardware or software runtime status of a monitored device at all; it is not used to track uptime, temperature, CPU, or any operational counters, but simply establishes where PySNMP-related OIDs live in the global tree. It has no external MIB dependency beyond the standard SNMPv2 SMI conventions used to define an OID subtree. It is not deployed on network equipment as a monitoring source; instead it exists purely within the PySNMP software library/toolchain as an internal namespace/registration MIB that developers building SNMP agents or tools with PySNMP consult to look up a given PYSNMP-MIB OID under the correct branch.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PYSNMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- software library (PySNMP) internal namespace, not a physical device
Monitoring Examples
This module is a pure OID-registration/namespace MIB with no data-bearing objects or tables — pysnmpObjects, pysnmpExamples, pysnmpEnumerations, pysnmpModuleIDs, pysnmpAgentOIDs, and pysnmpDomains are all just branch definitions, so there is no realistic device-monitoring scenario to describe.
