All MIBs › RFC1157

Category: IETF Standards

Description: Defines SNMPv1 protocol operations and message formats for network management per RFC 1157.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RFC1157?

Despite its name referencing the RFC 1157 SNMPv1 protocol specification, this module is a Siemens-specific placeholder MIB exposing only a handful of enterprise OID branch nodes (siemensRFC1157a through e) rather than the protocol's actual operations. It defines no traffic, protocol-operation, or performance objects; it functions purely as a private OID namespace stub used to reserve or organize Siemens enterprise identifiers. As such it carries no hardware or software status data of its own — no uptime, temperature, CPU, or fault objects — and is not intended for direct device polling. It nominally references the SNMPv1 standard by name but in practice is a vendor placeholder, likely used by other Siemens MIBs for OID allocation. It appears only in the compiled MIB source tree of Siemens equipment as a structural/organizational module, never as something an admin polls. Engineers can download the RFC1157 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RFC1157. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Siemens equipment (OID tree placeholder only)

Monitoring Examples

This module only defines placeholder object identifier nodes (siemensRFC1157a, siemensRFC1157b, etc.) with no tables, counters, or status objects behind them, so there is no realistic monitoring scenario — it is purely an OID namespace stub, not a data-bearing module.
