Description: Defines sensor type enumeration and classification for environmental monitoring on Motorola BSR CMTS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RDN-SENSOR-TYPE-MIB?

RDN-SENSOR-TYPE-MIB is a Motorola enterprise MIB for the BSR CMTS platform that defines the enumeration of environmental sensor types (such as temperature, voltage, or fan speed sensors) recognized on the chassis. Rather than exposing live readings itself, it acts as a supporting textual-convention/classification module used by other Motorola BSR MIBs that report actual environmental sensor values, telling a management station how to interpret a given sensor's type. Its contribution to hardware monitoring is indirect but important: correctly classifying a sensor as, for example, a temperature or power sensor is a prerequisite for an NMS to correctly interpret readings like chassis temperature or fan health reported elsewhere. It is a dependency of other Motorola BSR MIBs that carry the actual sensor value tables, rather than an independent data source. It is used within Motorola BSR CMTS deployments in cable head-ends as part of the broader environmental-monitoring MIB set. Engineers can download the RDN-SENSOR-TYPE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RDN-SENSOR-TYPE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Motorola BSR (Broadband Services Router) CMTS chassis

Monitoring Examples

This module contains type/enumeration definitions rather than pollable runtime data (no sample objects were provided), so there is no direct monitoring scenario to describe from this MIB alone. Its enumerated sensor-type values are referenced by companion Motorola BSR environmental-sensor tables to label each sensor entry (e.g., as temperature, fan, or voltage) when an operator polls those tables for actual readings.
