Category: DOCSIS and Cable, IP and Core Protocols

Description: Covers IP address assignment, ARP table entries, and IP protocol settings on BAS broadband access systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAS-IP-MIB?

BAS-IP-MIB is a vendor extension to the standard IP MIB for Broadband Access Systems equipment, tracking IP address assignment and addressing details per chassis, slot, interface, and logical port. It exposes an IP address table with entries for address, subnet mask, broadcast address, reassembly size limits, and per-entry row status, mirroring and extending the standard ipAddrTable concept. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration verification rather than hardware sensors: confirming an interface's assigned IP address, mask, and administrative status is correct, and catching stale or invalid rows via basIpAdEntStatus. It explicitly extends the standard IETF IP MIB's addressing objects with BAS-specific chassis/slot/port indexing. It is deployed by broadband access operators managing IP addressing across multi-slot BAS platforms. Engineers can download the BAS-IP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-IP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BAS (Broadband Access Systems) chassis-based broadband access platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check basIpAddrTable/basIpAddrEntry fields such as basIpAdEntAddr, basIpAdEntNetMask, and basIpAdEntBcastAddr against the expected addressing plan for a given basIpAdEntChassis/basIpAdEntSlot/basIpAdEntLPort combination to catch a misconfigured interface. An unexpected basIpAdEntStatus value (e.g., not active) on an interface that should be in service would flag a provisioning or hardware fault on that slot.

What Can Be Monitored

  • assigned IP address
  • subnet mask
  • broadcast address
  • reassembly maximum size
  • address row status
  • chassis/slot/port IP mapping
